River Song... A Return To BIG Hair?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am afraid.
I am VERY afraid.
This fear began about a year ago, when I realized that it's been over 20 years since big hair went out of style.  This of course means that the "poofy fro" is destined to come back any time now.
And I just don't think I can handle another decade of "uber" hair.
In the 80's I had very big and poofy hair. It was right up there with Whoopie Goldberg, Pamela Anderson and Shakira.
My kids could spot me a mile away. Their standard greeting for me was:
"Hello mother, my you're looking very poofy today."
And that was okay...
However, those days are gone.  My hairdresser and I have moved on. Now I subscribe to hair products that promise a "smooth sleek look" as opposed to "massive volume."
Yes, you could say that I am scarred but we all have our crosses in life to bear, don't we.  The only visible symptom of these scars is when I see magazine covers of superstars sporting massive hairstyles. I immediately cross my fingers as if I'm warding off a vampire and them proceed to back away slowly.  Fortunately for me, this does not happen often.
And then comes along the stunning River Song.
From the moment I first saw her killer red high heels in the opening scenes of "Time of the Angels" I knew she was trouble even before I saw her hair.  Her fashion sense is impeccable with of course the exception of her camouflage digs in the same stone angel episode.
And then of course was the episode "Let's Kill Hitler" when a blogger likened her episodes of regeneration to an "orgasmic hair shampoo."
(a comparison which still has me giggling to this day and always)
And so, what am I to do?
It is a fact that I am not the only one who cringes when they see pictures of '80's hairstyles from old family photographs right through to vintage music videos.
Yes, I can allow River her big hair, as long as Whovians don't start posting pictures of themselves in "River Song look alike wigs" just like fans did when they started posting pictures of themselves wearing fezzes because Dr. Who made the simple comment that...
"Fezzes are cool."
And so, I hope that hair fashion will dodge River Song's big hair bullet for at least another decade or so.  If not, this princess is just going to have to suck it up and have a nice long talk with her hairdresser.
After all, this is all about the lady of the hour... River Song and I could not imagine her without her stylish panache which includes her big hair because in the end....
It looks so good on her.
Until next time,
Mags
